The Cecilia Chorus of New York returns to live music-making with the Carnegie Hall premiere of Margaret Bonds's The Ballad of The Brown King (words by Langston Hughes) and a new "vest-pocket" Messiah.

Sixty-seven years after its premiere, American composer Margaret Bonds’s The Ballad of The Brown King gets a historic first-ever hearing in Carnegie Hall. The nine-movement cantata sets words by Langston Hughes evoking the African King Balthazar in a beautiful telling of the Nativity story.

Our Carnegie Hall Messiah is a New York tradition. This year we condense Handel's 150-minute epic into a crisp 50-minute "vest-pocket" version — suspenseful, exhilarating, and perfect for the whole family. Mozart's orchestration infuses Handel's Baroque sound-world with classical elegance.

With chorus, orchestra, and soloists
